The Japanese ambassador to Kenya H.E Tatsushi Terada today handed over Kiptulwa Dispensary Maternity Wing to the County Government of Bomet. The facility was renovated by the Constituency Development Fund of Sotik Constituency and the County Government of Bomet, equipped jointly by Japan and the County Government of Bomet.

The ceremony, presided over by the ambassador and Bomet County governor H.E Isaac Ruto, was also attended by Bomet County First Lady H.E Esther Ruto, Bomet County Woman Representative Hon Cecilia Ng’etich and Bomet County Miss Tourism Winnie Rop among many other dignitaries.

The County Government of Bomet is committed to eliminating maternal mortality and has so far established 17 maternities across the county in pursuit of that objective. Currently, maternal mortality in the county stands at 247 per 100,000 and we target to reduce it to 200 per 100,000 by 2018 and not to stop there but go all the way to zero. The national average currently stands at 288 per 100,000. We thank the people of Japan for joining us in this march.
