Resource Mobilization visit to World Medical Relief HQs in Detriot, MI, USA.

H.E The Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso led a high powered delegation consisting of the County Executive Committee of Health, the Chief of Staff and the director of Medical Services in a successful resource mobilization visit to the USA on 17th January 2018.

The World Medical Relief (WMR) is a donor organization that deals with all types of medical equipment and supplies. It has supported many African countries and poorly developed countries. The organization also supports poor citizens with medicine and supplies. It has an outpatient dispensing pharmacy and consultants offering free medical services. WMR has outlets outside USA such as Africa Relief (RFA).

The donation is sourced from well-wishers both within and outside America and most of their donors are hospitals and companies dealing with medical supplies. The equipment include surgical sets (orthopaedic , Caesarean Section , minor and major sets), theatre equipment such as anaesthesia machine, dental equipment including dental chairs, monitors including ICU, endoscopes among others. Disposable medical supplies and equipment are also available such as speculums, PPEs among others. Several counties have previously benefitted from the donations including Nandi, Kericho and Bungoma.

During the visit, H.E The Governor managed to secure the following for Bomet County;

  1. Hospital equipment worth Ksh50 million that will be distributed to health facilities across the county,
  2. Two fully fitted ambulances worth Ksh60 million, and
  3. A CT scan worth Ksh30 million.
  4. Large quantities of small equipment worth more than Ksh36 million

The total value of the assorted medical equipment tools, devices and other supplies is $1,750,000 which is approximately Kshs 176,750,000 at the current exchange rate. Health is one of the governor’s priority areas and these donations will go a long way in improving provision of medical services in the county.
