Bomet County governor Prof. Hillary Barchok has this morning handed over the site for the construction of affordable housing in Sotik town. This makes Sotik the second town in Bomet county to have the houses, a pet project of President William Ruto.
Addressing the area residents of Sotik town who turned up to witness the Handing-Over of the site to the State Department of Housing, Governor Barchok said that the construction of 561 affordable housing units in the town will not only provide quality, decent and affordable homes but will also be a source of livelihood for the residents.
“We are committed to supporting the National Government improve the living standards of the people of Bomet through infrastructure development, economic empowerment and access to dignified housing,” said Prof. Barchok.
At the same time, the governor disclosed that his administration will donate more land in Bomet town for the construction of a further 1,600 housing units as the project enters its second phase.
Prof. Barchok added that the 222 housing units constructed in the first phase of the project in Bomet town had already been completed and that the president would officially open them when he visits Bomet soon.
“I call upon residents to be in the front line in purchasing these houses as a future investment for their families. We are engaging the State Department of Housing to assist Bomet residents access credit and give them first priority in purchasing these houses,” added the governor.
Prof. Barchok later visited Chemagel Centre (Sotik Old Town), a proposed site for the construction of a modern market.
The New Sotik Town Modern Market to be built by the State Department of Housing is expected to significantly improve the trading environment for local vendors, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
He was accompanied by CECM Lands and Housing Joseph Kirui, Sotik Municipal Manager Bernard Ng’eno (Twenty Five), among others.
