Shadrack Rotich

David Shadrack Rotich was born on 31st January 1961, in Kabulao village, Gelegele, Goiyet Sublocation, to a family of 8 children. His father, a teacher and farmer, provided the foundation for his education.

His educational journey began at Gelegele Primary School until 1975 when he sat for his CPE examinations. He then proceeded to Kaboson Secondary School, completing form 1 and form 2. In 1976, he took the Kenya Junior Secondary School Examinations and was admitted to Kapsabet Boys’ High School in 1977, completing in 1980. In 1981, he enrolled in Kenya Science Teachers College for a diploma course, specializing in mathematics and chemistry, and graduated in 1983.

After completing his college, he taught at Maseno School in 1984 before being transferred to Kabianga High School in Kericho, where he taught for six years. In 1988, due to outstanding chemistry results at Kabianga High School, he was awarded a scholarship to study in India from 1988 to 1992, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. Upon returning to Kenya in 1992, he resumed his teaching career at Tengecha High School. In 1993, he transitioned to employment with the Kenya National Federation of Cooperatives until 1994. He then served as the Commercial Manager in the Water Department at Kericho Municipal Council from 1994 to 1999. His career continued with the National Local Government Movement from 1999 to 2016. In 2017, he was appointed Secretary-General of the Jubilee Party Bomet County chapter. After the 2017 elections, he was elected Speaker of the County Assembly of Bomet. After the passing of Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso in 2019, he was appointed Deputy Governor by Governor Prof. Hilary Barchok and reappointed in 2022 for a second term.

He has learned the importance of people’s rights to land and natural resources within their boundaries.  He advocates for self-rule, emphasizing the right of the people to be informed about government activities through civic education and public participation.

He was brought up in a strong Christian background and was baptized in 1976. In 1984, he got married, and he has four children.

He loves athletics and comedy very much. He is a devoted supporter of Liverpool Football Club and enjoys reading.
