Simon Langat

County Secretary

Mr. Simion Kimutai Langat is the County Secretary and Head of Public Service. He hails from Kapleleito village, Boito Ward, Konoin Sub County. He is a Christian, married and enjoys watching football, traveling, reading and playing chess.

His educational journey began at Kamagomon Primary School, where he sat for his KCPE in 1986. Subsequently, he attended Kericho High School, sitting for his KCSE in 1990. Afterward, he pursued higher education at Kenyatta University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education (Second Class, Upper Division) between 1992 and 1996. Later, he obtained a Master’s in Business Administration from the same university (2013-2015). Currently, he is undertaking his PhD in management science at the same institution.

He has had a distinguished career in education and county administration. He started as a teacher under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), rising to the position of Deputy Principal at Koiwa Boys High School (2010-2013) and later he was  promoted to  the position of Principal at Chemalal Secondary School (2013-2018). He also served as a KNEC Examiner, where he rose to the position of Senior Examiner for Physics (2012-2018). Additionally, he worked as a part-time lecturer and attachment supervisor at Kisii University Kericho Campus and the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) Kericho Campus (2016-2018). He was also a SMASSE District Trainer under CEMASTEA and served as the Vice Chairperson of Konoin Secondary Schools in 2018.

In 2018, he transitioned to county government as Chief Officer for Education in Bomet County, serving until 2022. He also acted as Chief Officer for Public Service and has been the County Secretary for Bomet County since 2022, following a stint as Acting County Secretary (2021-2022).

Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including the Buret District Teacher of the Year award and the Best Chief Officer Award in Bomet County for the financial year 2020/2021.
