Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok today joined cooperative societies from across the County in marking International Cooperative (Ushirika) Day.
The 102nd edition of the celebrations began with a colourful procession through Bomet’s Central Business District, bringing together members of various cooperatives and SACCOS in a show of unity. This year’s theme was “Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World,” in line with the 2025 UN International Year of Cooperatives.
Governor Barchok reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to strengthening the cooperative movement as a key driver of economic empowerment.
“We recognize the transformative power of cooperative societies in reshaping our economic landscape, strengthening our social fabric and stewarding our environment for generations to come”, said the governor.
The governor added that Bomet had 741 registered cooperatives, with 227 currently
active adding that the same represent far more than mere statistics—they embody the dreams, aspirations, and collective determination of the people.
In attendance were Agriculture CECM CPA Bernard Cheruiyot, Finance CECM Rosa Bett, Cooperatives CO CPA Bernard Koros, Agriculture CO Dr. Kibet Sitienei and other cooperative leaders from across the county.
