The County Government of Bomet, in collaboration with Safaricom PLC, Mpesa Foundation, and various partners, conducted a free medical camp at Kamureito in Sotik Sub-county.
The camp, held at Kamureito Primary School, saw an impressive turnout, with 3,065 residents receiving medical attention.
This event was made possible through the collective efforts of Safaricom PLC, Mpesa Foundation, Zuri Health, Amref Kenya, Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital, Kaplong Mission Hospital, and the management of Kamureito Primary School, who graciously provided the venue.
During the camp, participants received a variety of medical services. Those requiring specialized care were referred to other healthcare facilities for proper follow-up. Additionally, over 20 families who attended the camp were enrolled in the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover, which will ensure that they continue to access essential healthcare services.
The Mpesa Foundation revealed that more than 13 mothers will benefit from free fistula corrective surgeries at Longisa County Referral Hospital, an initiative sponsored by Amref Kenya.
Technology played a pivotal role in the camp’s success, with thousands of patients benefiting from remote consultations through Telodoc equipment and the Zuri Health application. This innovative approach allowed healthcare providers to deliver timely and efficient care, leveraging expertise from around the world.
Furthermore, the Safaricom Mpesa Foundation demonstrated its continued support for maternal health by donating Mama packs to mothers at Longisa County Referral Hospital’s maternity wing, aiding in safe deliveries and postnatal care.
