CGoB Begins Equipping Dr. Joyce Laboso Mother-and-Child Facility

The County Government of Bomet has stepped up its efforts to have the new Dr. Joyce Laboso Mother-and-Child Wellness Centre commissioned, with some of the equipment needed to operationalize the facility already being deployed and installed.

This legacy project, championed by Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok will provide key referral medical services to Bomet residents and patients from surrounding counties. It will also greatly ease pressure on the Longisa County Referral Hospital.

Ahead of a planned official commissioning by President William Ruto soon, senior staff of the Department of Health Services, led by CECM Dr. Joseph Sitonik and CO Felix Langat, went on an inspection tour of the facility this morning to assess the hospital’s readiness to serve the wanainchi.

The 250-bed capacity facility, which promises to be a game-changer in the healthcare system in Bomet County, will be jointly equipped by the county government and the national government.

During his visit to the county last year, President William Ruto promised to support the efforts of the County Government by availing state-of-the-art equipment that will give the facility the cutting edge that will revolutionize the provision of healthcare services in the region.

Meanwhile, Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok has also launched a modern AI-enabled X-ray machine at Cheptalal Sub-County Hospital in Embomos Ward, Konoin Sub-county. The commissioning of the machine was done with support from PEPFAR, HJFMR, and the Walter Reed Project. The unveiling of the equipment marks a significant milestone in the fight against TB, a disease that remains a serious public health concern.

The new digital X-ray machine, which utilizes advanced automated technology and pre-installed Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) software, promises to revolutionize the county’s screening efforts.

“The precision of this AI-enabled X-ray equipment in interpreting images enhances diagnosis, speeding up treatment and minimizing further transmission of the disease. It is also portable, allowing us to take it to TB hotspots and remote areas, bringing diagnosis closer to the people,” said the governor.

These latest developments underscore the governor’s commitment to ensuring that Bomet residents have access to quality healthcare services without having to travel outside the county.
