Ksh 40M earmarked for the construction of Tegat Athletics Training Centre

The County Government of Bomet is set to complete the construction of Tegat Training Centre in Bomet East Subcounty.
Speaking during the homecoming ceremony of Beatrice Chepkoech, the 3000M World record holder in Besiobei, Konoin Subcounty, Bomet Deputy Governor Dr. Hillary Barchok revealed that the county had allocated enough funds for the completion and equipping of the training centre.
“As a county we are determined to nurture young talents and encourage our youths to indulge in sporting activities. As such we have rolled out plans to fast-track the completion of Tegat training complex centre in our county, ” Dr. Barchok said.
The Deputy Governor revealed that the county government was waiting for proper hand over of Terek training camp from the national government to take over the completion and equipping of the facility. Dr. Barchok also announced the plans by the county government to reward the athletes who will bag medals in international races.
“Those who will win gold, silver and bronze will be rewarded with cash prizes of Ksh 200,000, Ksh150,000 and Ksh 100000 respectively” Dr. Barchok affirmed.
Ag. Youth and Sports CECM Benard Ngeno unveiled plans by the department to host a major marathon event before the end this year to give a chance to young athletes to compete and be exposed.
“We are working on a program to introduce annual marathon competition before the end of this year. This marathon will be resourceful to our athletes as it will provide a breakthrough for them to participate in other races outside our county in future” said Ngeno.
Present during the event included Hon Charles Keter Energy CS, Senators Christopher Lang’at, Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Joyce Korir (Women Rep), MPs Brighton Yegon (Konoin), Hon Gideon Keter (Nominated), MCAs Charles Langat (Boito), Ambrose Koech (Mogogosiek), Zadock Kilel (Merigi), Robert Serbia (Embomos), Chief Officer Mr Nicholas Kerich (Sports), Chepkoech’s family and friends and other Kenyan athletes
