Dr. Joseph Kipngetich Kirui

Dr. Joseph Kipngetich Kirui is the current CECM in for Administration, Public Service, Devolution, and Special Programs in the County Government of Bomet. He was born on January 6, 1974, in Nyambugo, Kerundut village, from a humble background of peasant farmers where hard work was the only way to success.

His educational journey began at Kapkesesio Primary School in Chepalungu Sub-county, and he sat for his KCPE in 1986. Due to a lack of school fees, he repeated class eight at Simotwet Primary in Olenguruoni, finishing in 1987. From 1988 to 1991, he attended Maseno School and passed with flying colors. He then proceeded to Moi University to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Arts from 1993 to 1998. Subsequently, he obtained a Master’s in Education specializing in Curriculum Development at the same university (2006-2008) and a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) (2009-2011) from Moi University.

Dr. Kirui started his career with the Teacher’s Service Commission, teaching in various schools in Transmara and Sotik. In 2008, he joined Kericho Teachers College, teaching professional courses. By 2012, he became a lecturer at Moi University’s School of Education, later attaining the position of Senior Lecturer in 2014. He taught at Moi University multiple campuses, including Nairobi, Kericho, Yala, and the West campus in Eldoret, teaching up to the PhD level.

He was the pioneer of Bomet University College in 2016, starting it as Bomet College campus coordinator. He later served as the founding principal of the college campus. When it was elevated to a university college, he served as the first deputy principal and was the first registrar in charge of administration and also the first registrar in charge of planning and development.

Dr. Kirui actively shaped educational policies, serving as the Chairperson of the Bomet County Education Board. He also chaired a task force formed by the second governor of Bomet County, the late Dr. Joyce Laboso, to assess education performance in Bomet County.

He has published numerous scholarly works in refereed journals and authored three books focused on research applicable to diploma, degree, and postgraduate level students, with a specific emphasis on curriculum theorizing.

Dr. Kirui embraced Christianity in Form 2 in 1989, later getting baptized in 1992 at Nyambugo Church. He led a discipleship group during his master’s studies and contributed to the Christian Union while at Moi University. Currently, he serves as a Lay Leader at Emmanuel AGC in Kericho. He is married with a daughter and two sons, prioritizing family as a source of strength.

Championing the legacy for the betterment of Governor Barchok’s leadership, Dr. Kirui stands as a multifaceted figure, contributing significantly to education, politics, and community development.
