Dr. John K. Keter is the current Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training in the County Government of Bomet.
He was Born in 1980 from Bingwa Village, Kipreres ward, Bomet East Sub-County. Dr. Keter is a seasoned educator, a specialist in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Media and community leader with a rich academic background. He earned his PhD in Science Education with and award of outstanding academic excellence from Egerton University in 2018, building on his earlier achievements; a Master’s in Science Education from the same University in 2014 and a Bachelor of Education in Science from Egerton University in 2005. His educational journey began at Korara Primary School, where he completed his KCPE in 1994. His outstanding academic Excellence in KCPE earned him a scholarship to Starehe boys Centre and School under Safe the Children Fund (UK) and sat his KCSE in 1998.
Dr. Keter’s commitment to the field of Education is evident through his diverse work experience having taught in Basic Education level as well as Higher Education. Taught under BOM at Korara Primary School and later Oloomirani High School upto 2006. While working under BOM at Oloomirani High School he was awarded as the Best Maths Teacher in Narok District in 2005 KCSE. He was employed by the Teachers Service Commission in 2008 as a teacher at Mulot High School, where he taught Chemistry and Mathematics for 11 years. Besides being a Class Teacher, he also served as the Examinations Officer and Christian Union Patron.
Since January 2023, he has served as the County Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training in the Department of Education, Youth Sports and Vocational Training in the County Government of Bomet. Prior to this, he contributed significantly to academia and administration at the University of Kabianga, where he held roles such as Lecturer, Teaching Practice Coordinator and Examinations Coordinator from 2018 to 2023. His career progression during his tenure as a Lecturer at University of Kabianga saw him supervise a Phd candidate to completion.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Keter is deeply involved in community service giving back to the society as a member of the clergy in Africa Gospel Church and students ministry in schools. He is a renown career coach and mentor to many. He currently chairs Boards of Management for Korara Special Comprehensive School (VI) and Olbobo Secondary School. In addition to this he serves as a member of Executive BOM korara Secondary where he chairs the academic sub-committee, demonstrating his commitment to fostering education at both the Secondary and Primary Levels.
Dr. Keter is not only a dedicated Scholar, researcher and community leader but also a devoted family man. He is married with children is a committed Christian. His multifaceted contributions reflects a passion for making a positive impact in all levels of life.
