Bomet Governor Pays Courtesy Call To CCF

The Governor of Bomet County H.E Prof. Hillary Barchok has today paid a courtesy call on the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Mr. Alex Lemarkoko at his office in Karura where they discussed forest conservation in Bomet County.

The CCF thanked the Governor for his government’s steadfast support in the conservation of forests in the County noting that it had led to the rehabilitation of the forests especially Chepalungu which was severely degraded in the past. He welcomed the Governor’s proposal to work together in the development of a social fence that will ensure that there are sufficient income generating activities for the Community Forest Association (CFA) who are key stakeholders in forest conservation.

On his part, the Governor thanked the CCF for his efforts in bringing together all the stakeholders in forest conservation. He observed that forest conservation required the participation of everyone and committed his government’s support in ensuring that Chepalungu and other forests including the Mau Forest Complex are well conserved for the benefit of the local community and the Country. The Governor agreed with the CCF to formalise the working relationship between the County and the Service through an MOU that will guide future collaborations.

The two leaders also agreed to convene a meeting where technical officers will have an opportunity to discuss how the two institutions will work together to ensure that forests are sustainably conserved.
