The County Government of Bomet has embarked on a mission to bring order in the Matatu industry plying its trade within Bomet town and its environs.
In a statement issued by Bomet Municipality, the Department of Urban Planning and the Kenya Police-Traffic Department will collaborate to enforce new directives aimed at ensuring that traffic flow along the Kaplong-Bomet-Narok highway flows uninterrupted and that every single Matatu dropping or picking passengers in Bomet town pays revenue to the county government.
According to Bomet Municipality Manager Mr. Davis Lang’at, there shall only be one EXIT point from Bomet stage, which will be the gate next to the National Bank, facing Radiant Supermarket. The two gates along the highway shall, henceforth, be ENTRY points for all PSVs seeking to pick or drop passengers in Bomet.
This will go a long way in decongesting the main highway, which has been experiencing unnecessary traffic jams.
Additionally, the municipality has also centralized ALL pickup and drop off points of passengers for buses, minivans and cars at the main stage to bring some order within the town. Vehicles picking and dropping off passengers in areas outside the stage will immediately impounded.
Beyond the immediate improvements in the town’s traffic flow, the operation will also help with the efficient collection of revenue.
