Nairobi.
A longstanding dispute between the County Government of Bomet and the Kenya Prisons Service over a parcel of land in Bomet town, is finally over. This follows a truce brokered by the InterGovernmental Relations Technical Committee, (IGRTC).
The body, established to facilitate dialogue and consultations within Intergovernmental structures, oversaw the signing of an Intergovernmental Partnership Agreement (IPA) between the County Government of Bomet and the Kenya Prisons Department regarding the dispute.
The agreement was signed by the Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Patrick Aranduh, on behalf of the Kenya Prisons service and Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok on behalf of the County Government of Bomet at Magereza House, Nairobi, earlier today.
Following the agreement, Bomet will own 2.3 acres designated for the dumping site while Prisons Department will own 10.3 acres.
This means that the county government of Bomet can now commence plans to relocate the current dumpsite to the new parcel of land. The relocation of the facility was necessitated by the establishment of the Affordable Housing Project around the current dumpsite.
Additionally, 25 metres of road will be left to ascertain access to the County Refuse Disposal site and the entire Chebirir village. This commitment will go a long way in building strong mutual partnership for efficient service delivery.
This collaboration was witnessed by the IGTRC Chair CPA Kithinji Kiragu, Vice Chair Ms. Saadia Kontoma and the CEO, Dr Kipkurui Chepkwony, MBS.
