ECD Learners Receive Milk As Barchok Affirms Support For Pre-Primary Feeding Program

Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok has welcomed the proposed Pre-Primary Model School Feeding Policy document, which was deliberated by the council of governors and partners, yesterday ahead of its official launch at the Devolution Conference 2025 in Homa Bay County.

This policy provides a harmonized, sustainable, and scalable framework for counties to deliver school meals in ECDE centres across the country.

Prof. Barchok joined his colleagues in reaffirming their commitment to ensuring no child is left behind due to classroom hunger.

The policy has been developed in close collaboration with the Senate, County Governments, the National Government, and Food 4 Education.

Meanwhile, the county government of Bomet has, this morning, received its weekly consignment of milk for all the young learners spread across all its ECDE centres in Bomet county.

Officers from the Department of Education across the wards received the consignment delivered by KCC at the wards. The same was further distributed by bodaboda saccos to the respective schools. The schools will receive double packages for Tuesday and Thursday, as has been tradition.

The program, dubbed ‘Maziwa ya Barchok’, has seen an upsurge in the enrollment of young learners in the ECDE centres across the county, three years since it was started.

The milk aims to boost children’s nutrition, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the children as well as motivating the kids, leading to better school attendance and performance.
