KAA Tours Bomet to Inspect Works at Airstrip

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), this morning, visited Bomet County to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation works at Itembe Airstrip in Nyangores ward of Chepalungu Sub County.

Led by its board chairman Mr Caleb Kositany, the team reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the project, which is one of the major election pledges of the Kenya Kwanza government, is delivered within the stipulated timeline.

The ongoing phase 1 construction involves upgrading the existing runway to a 1,000-metre by 18-metre asphalt concrete surface, alongside construction of taxiways and an apron, installation of a windsock, drainage improvements, perimeter fencing, and land acquisition to achieve full runway strip compliance. Construction is expected to be complete in 15 months.

Speaking during the inspection tour, Mr. Kositany expressed his gratitude to the county government of Bomet, saying that KAA was working closely with the county administration in delivering this promise by the president.

“We are thankful to H.E President William Samoei Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Government for fulfilling this major election pledge made to the people of Bomet”, Said Mr. Kositany.

Upon completion, the upgraded Itembe Airstrip will support medical evacuation operations – particularly for AGC Tenwek Hospital and AGC Tenwek Cardiothoracic Centre, general aviation and improved regional connectivity, while unlocking new opportunities for tourism, agriculture and manufacturing across Bomet County and the wider South Rift region.
