The County Government of Bomet has, this morning, trained it’s staff as it prepares to distribute Sunflower seedlings to farmers across the county. The training was jointly done with staff from the AFA Nuts & Oil Crops Directorate who, specifically, took the staff through the EVEMIS System that will allow them to Register & redeem vouchers on the Sunflower Seed Distribution.
Thus far, over 10 Metric Tonnes of sunflower seedlings have been distributed to Bomet NCPB as part of the edible oil crops project that the directorate has been implementing in the country.
This exciting initiative will see a total of 9,975 kgs of sunflower seeds provided to farmers, who will plant them across the five sub counties in Bomet.
The staff were sensitized on how to interact with the system and create collection centers in their respective wards.
The provision of sunflower seeds to farmers is part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to promote edible oil crop production in 35 counties, one of which is Bomet.
The project seeks to introduce interventions geared towards increasing the production and processing of sunflower among other edible oil crops value chains.
The distribution of these seedlings at the ward level will kick off tomorrow under the supervision of our Sub County Agricultural Officers and the Ward Agricultural Officers across all the 25 wards in the county.
The County administration led by Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok remains committed to helping farmers realize success not just in the sunflower sector but, indeed, all other agricultural sectors.
