Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok has, this afternoon, led residents from all walks of life across Bomet County in marking the 62nd Jamhuri Day Celebrations at Boito Grounds, Konoin Sub County.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Barchok joined President William Ruto, who also led the Jamhuri Day national celebrations at the Nyayo Stadium, in honouring the visionary leaders and ordinary citizens whose sacrifices secured the freedom and sovereignty that Kenyans enjoy today.
“We also use this day to reflect on the journey our nation has taken since independence and renew our commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive Kenya” Said the governor.
With the theme, “Tourism, Wildlife, and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences
and Exhibitions (MICE),” this year’s Jamhuri Celebrations focussed on looking inward at the natural wealth of Bomet County and position it as a premier tourist destination.
Prof. Barchok called upon Bomet residents to recognize the economic potential of the scenic landscapes, rich culture, and strategic location of Bomet, as a county, adding that by developing these sectors, Bomet can create sustainable jobs, diversify its local economy and generate the revenue needed for service delivery.
“In line with the national government’s plan to diversify regional economies and
improve livelihoods, we are working closely with the State Department for Tourism and Wildlife, the private sector, and our citizens to invest in key infrastructure. We project the establishment of international convention centres to position Bomet as a hub for regional meetings and conferences,” Governor Barchok added.
The governor called upon everyone to participate in their civic duty to be ambassadors of Bomet County’s beauty and warmth.
He added that the energy that will power Bomet’s transformation is the collective will,
commitment, and cooperation of all, working towards shared prosperity.
The ceremony was also attended by the new Bomet County Commissioner Madam Carolyn Nzwili, MCAs, amongย otherย leaders.
