A landmark surgery for a total hip replacement was successfully conducted today at Ndanai Sub County Hospital by an orthopedic team led by Dr Cheruiyot. The two-hour complex and delicate procedure was the first of its kind at Ndanai Hospital.
The patient, Jane Chepkoech, a 54 year old resident of Ndanai Town had her surgery bill met by SHA and the county government.
SHA met the cost of ksh 336,000 and Ndanai Hospital under the leadership of Dr Mutai was able to meet the cost of implants amounting to ksh 200,000. This was one of the 5 orthopedic surgeries done at the facility today.
The patient, who was to be confined to her seat or bed has just received a new lease of life, a life changing testimony of how SHA has transformed her life.
Speaking at the facility after the surgery, the County Executive Committee Member for Health Services Dr. Joseph Sitonik told reporters that succesful procedure was testament enough that health facilities in Bomet had the capacity to handle orthopaedic and, indeed, other complex situations.
“We have a lot of confidence in our medics, our facilities and our healthcare system in general to offer quality health services to the people of Bomet”, Said Dr. Sitonik.
On his part, Health Services CO Felix Lang’at urged every resident in Bomet County to continue registering with SHA to enable them access medical care, free of charge. He called on residents to visit any health facility for guidance on the registration.
“SHA WORKS and I appeal to all residents of Bomet County to register for this health insurance scheme. Surgeries that initially required between kshs. 40,000 – 500,000 are now fully covered by SHA without an extra cost”, Said the CO.
Dr. Sitonik thanked Ndanai Hospital and its doctors who pulled together to ensure a successful life-changing surgery.
